Progress? Okay....it's progress.

I said this blog would be honest and raw. So I decided to share this snippet video of an "attempt" to put a nice video together for our local Artwalk. It has a lot of problems and qualifies more as a blooper video, especially as it gets toward the end, as I purposely included some of our little "discussions" and hangups. It is rather comical. It's also part of my journey... and putting this out there is a small step in accepting myself as NOT perfect.

Our town still has restrictions for public gatherings so this monthly Artwalk event is currently being held online. The founder and organizer is a friend of mine who asked my husband and I to participate. We knew we weren't greatly prepared but didn't want to let her down and thought ....surely we could put together 20 minutes worth of music on a video. How hard could it be? Well, pretty hard for us apparently. We knew we were a little out out of practice playing anything outside of church but thought we could probably pull this off. People do it all the time! On top of that, we decided to do some of our newer"ish" material instead of pulling from our tried and true collection. We are both still uncomfortable with the process of putting ourselves on video. We are still trying to understand all the settings on our camera, get the lighting right and the sound mix right. Also, we decided to forgo memorizing our set since we usually use sheet music for the Artwalk. The reason being, we usually play 3 hours at this event (when it's live) and we are more of a backdrop as people walk around looking at the art...not really a main feature.

One good thing is we've been converting all our music to an iPad and Surface, getting away from the "old school" method of paper music. That will be a lot more professional we thought. We have a good app that works well at church for leading worship. But now we've realized, not so much for mainstream cover music and original music. Then there's always the challenge of being a married couple trying to work together. Oh boy. That's always a big deal. When we are around other people I guess we are better behaved, mostly. Leave us on our own and things get more real. Mike says I take things too seriously. I say, he doesn't take things seriously enough. He says he is a bass player. I say, "No, you're not". Things tend to go south from there....lol. I'm not sure how we ever get things done....but we do, eventually. Anyway, getting a good video is not quite achieved yet. We have a ways to go. At least this is a starting point, so I'm calling it progress.
