As someone who's been blessed with an inescapable, often messy, creative soul, I'm always working to reign it into something worthwhile, and thankful for any help I can get. ...That is, when I'm actually blessed with the time to do something with it. So I thought I would share some resources I've stumbled across. These have all been a helpful to me. I would like to say thank you to all of these artists who put themselves out there to enrich others. Most of these are music related, but some will speak to anyone with a creative spirit.
Bree Noble, a gifted singer/songwriter herself, created this podcast, and is a true sweetheart. This was the first radio station to play some of my songs! She also created, owns and manages Female Entrepreneur Musician to create support, promotion & community for female musicians. The Women of Substance Music Podcast features music by Female Indie Artists every Monday, Wednesday, Friday. They've been #1 in iTunes New & Noteworthy in multiple categories & received the Podcaster's Paradise Award for Most Creative Podcast and receive 10,000+ downloads per month from loyal listeners.
Kris Bradley has been a true inspiration and help as I've launched myself deeper into the ins and outs of music production. Her helpful videos and podcasts have saved me time and have encouraged me, nudging me to keep going when I've felt like it's all too much in the realm of music production. She is, of course, a successful music producer and runs Boomfox Productions out of her home.
I subscribed to this blog several years ago. It's written by J. Michael Dolan, the former CEO of M.C.I. publishing corp. and the founder of Music Connection and Songwriter Connection magazines, among many other accomplishments. It's always a short read, and almost every time I read it I find myself saying,"Wow, he gets me". I really like the fact that he puts artists, entrepreneurs and geniuses all in the same category. I'm the kind of person who needs that reassurance....lol. Also, I feel not so alone, just like I'm hoping others feel in reading my blog.
This in not a person, but actually a whole bunch of people.....really smart people. I really like this platform for learning stuff quickly and affordably. Here you can take online classes in almost anything you can imagine. I was delighted to discover all the music related classes they offered. The first month is free. If you like it, it's only $29.99 a month for unlimited learning. Also, if you already have a LinkedIn account, when you complete a class you can post your certificate straight to your profile. Classes are taught by well-known professors and top industry professionals. Pretty cool!
Creative and Supportive Friends
This one is huge. I couldn't name them all here and wouldn't want to without their permissions. I've realized I can't do anything that great by myself, no matter how much more comfortable that is for me. It takes counseling, collaboration, encouragement, inspiration....all those things you can't do for yourself. The best advise I ever received is...surround yourself with creative, supportive friends. That's not always easy, but essential. If you don't have anyone nearby, or you're going through something very personal, I'm a huge proponent of professional counseling. I don't know where I'd be today if that wasn't available to me during the darker times in my life. (Just putting that out there.)
These are just a few resources that come to mind at the moment, and most of these are free. There are many more I could share but not only are there's too many to name, there's too many to list in a short blog post. Just do some looking. Help is easy to find if you do a little digging. Don't forget to pay it forward.
